Pia and Philipp: going with the natural flow
I am so full of emotions while writing about this intimate and very special wedding we hosted at the end of last summer.
I perfectly remember the first time Pia and Philipp wrote to me about their plan of getting married in Tuscany, at Il Rigo.
It was April 2020, they were just engaged, and I was facing one of the biggest crises our business ever went through, postponing all the weddings planned for the summer.
They asked if some dates might have been released after the COVID outbreak, to celebrate an intimate wedding. This simple request, in a moment of frailty and fear, was able to infuse courage and helped me facing the spring and the challenges with a new hope!
We set the date in late September, even though we usually host weddings only until the beginning of September.
The Val d’Orcia is known to be dry and hot in the summer months, and it’s perfect for an outdoor party at night! However around the middle of September a turning point might happen.
And so it was, but the changing weather, together with the dramatic beauty of the landscape, made the atmosphere even more special and completely unforgettable!
I’ll let Pia herself tell you more accompanied with the stunning photos of Federico Panacci!
Late September morning awakening
“Italy is our country of longing. We loved being there, slowing down and enjoying life. So it was not surprising that mine and Philipp’s first vacation was in Italy.
I heard about il Rigo on social media as I love following instagram accounts of italian agriturismi or recommendations for sustainable holidays.
After our engagement we talked about how we wanna spend our wedding day. For us it was clear that we prefer an intimate wedding with our beloved ones in a natural atmosphere where our guests and we can enjoy nice hours in each other’s company.
And that's Il Rigo for us. We never visited Il Rigo before our wedding, but we felt so safe that this will be our magical place for our intimate wedding. And our feelings weren't mistaken.
My favourite moment of the wedding day was shortly before the ceremony. I had some minutes for myself. Looking at my beautiful bouquet, full of colours, full of life and prepared with so much love by Luisa.
I was thinking about our first skype call, where we talked about the flowers and we agreed going with the flow and nature, in every point.
We loved that attitude of taking what nature gives us.
A sun & rain wedding ceremony
The weather outside was a mix of sun and dark clouds. We weren't sure whether the ceremony could take place completely outside, or whether we had to switch in the meantime to the inside.
And so it happened and it wasn't bad at all! We took what nature gave us and nature was on our side despite the rain. The moment I saw Philipp standing on the field waiting for me was overwhelming, I felt like being where I belong to, I felt so happy and safe.
We had a symbolic wedding ceremony, which was held by two of our wonderful and heart-warming friends. About halfway through the ceremony, right after a beautiful musical interlude the rain started. We moved inside and spent the second half of our ceremony there with all the emotional words of our families and friends while it was raining heavily outside.
It was a magical atmosphere, it was beautiful.
This showed us once again that life is not only made of sunshine but also of rain.
But as long as we trust in ourselves and nature and we go with the flow, with nature, everything will be fine.
This special ceremony was possible because Luisa always had a plan B for us. Everything was prepared, everything was running in the background, so that we didn't notice any hustle. Luisa sensed how we wanted it to go and that's why everything went perfectly.
